It seems as though everyone nowadays is going for an electric car. With the technology of the electric car slowly catching up, and production lines for companies like Tesla churning out the vehicles en masse, it seems as though the age of electric cars is here.
So what about the classic cars of old? Will they then become obsolete? Well, not necessarily. Here are 3 examples of classic cars that have been modded into electric cars.
1. FERRARI 308 GTE

The classic Ferrari 308 is an icon. From its role in a little TV show called Magnum PI to the posters hanging off the walls of hipster homes, the 308 is where the love of Ferrari started. Enter the modded Ferrari 308 GTE, named so because of its complicated electric power train conversion, which utilizes a 46 kWh lithium battery that offers a driving range of about 240 km. This baby is capable of producing around 330 hp with the same amount of torque, with its three electric motors transmitting power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed Porsche G50 manual transmission.The 308 GTE also comes with LED daytime running lights and headlights for further environmental friendliness.
2. PORSCHE 911 E

A ‘modern classic’ if ever there was one, Porsche’s long-running 911 arrived in 1964, replacing the 356. Two years after the original coupé’s introduction, a convertible 911 – the ‘Targa’, named in honour of Porsche’s numerous victories in the Sicilian classic – arrived in 1966. With such a storied history, this mod utilized 54 kWh battery packs, which were used to power the two electric motors placed on the front and the back. It also has an option between Eco or Power mode, with 0 to 100 km/h now taking around 6 seconds with a top speed of around 240 km/h.
3. JAGUAR E-TYPE ZERO

Once dubbed the most beautiful car ever built by Enzo Ferrari himself, the Jaguar E-type Zero offers performance more outstanding than the original petrol-powered vehicle. Because the electric powertrain is placed precisely in the same position as the original engine, the car’s weight distribution is unchanged, ensuring that it drives, brakes, rides and handles the same as the original E-type. It boasts of a 40kWh lithium ion battery which shares the same dimension and weight as the original engine, and offers a range of about 270 km depending on the driving method. This beauty is capable of achieving up to 295 hp, and 0 to 100 km/h takes just 5.5 seconds! The Jaguar E-Type Zero also borrows tech and components from the upcoming I-PACE, Jaguar Land Rover’s first production all-electric vehicle. Like the Ferrari 308 GTE, it also adopts LED lighting for energy efficiency.
Classic cars with a modern twist to it sounds like moving forwards with the times.
