The Art of Drifting

 

Drifting has gained popularity over the past few years and is definitely an exciting motorsports entertainment. First and foremost, you may ask what is drifting. We are pretty sure many of you have seen drifting on movies or even computer games. Drifting is a driving technique where the driver is trying to remain in a state of oversteer, while maintaining control and driving the car throughout the whole corner.

Drifting was originated in Japan. Kunimitsu Takahashi, also known as the “Father of Drifting” developed this driving technique in competitive racing. A drifting association in Japan was established for beginners and experienced street racers to practice drifting techniques on closed courses. Today, drifting is tremendously popular throughout the world. It is said to be one of the most fun and adrenaline-pumping driving techniques around.

The Nissan Skyline R34, in drifting action

Drifting can be mastered with years of practice, dedication and passion. It is not something someone can learn in a day and be a professional at it. Some of the famous Japanese drifting cars includes; Nissan Skyline R34, Nissan Silvia S13, Subaru Impreza GD, Toyota Supra and the list goes on.

Drifting R/C Cars

The activity alone is not something people take lightly as it requires a great amount of hard work, time and even cash. Some drift enthusiast dare not take such a huge risk to invest on a drifting car, therefore, they sometimes get a remote-control or radio-controlled cars, etc R/C cars. The mechanics for RC cars works pretty much similar with the real car. Companies such as Tamiya, Yokomo, Team Associated and more are in the R/C car business to support this hobby.

Keiichi Tsuchiya, the “Drift King”

Our Malaysian famous drifters are Tengku Djan Ley and Leona Chin. Whereas in Japan, Keiichi Tsuchiya, also known as the “Drift King”, is an underground legend and has won numerous drifting competitions around the world.
