College treats underprivileged children to a fun day out

JUDGING from the excited squeals, laughter and smiles, the special guests were having the time of their lives at The Otomotif College’s (TOC) 10th Anniversary Charity Carnival recently.

Although the main objective of the carnival was to raise funds for the TOC Scholarship Foundation to help youths who have a passion for cars, TOC decided to rope in industry partners, corporate and individuals to make it a fun day out for more than 200 children from Agathians Home, Kirtash Home, Myanmar Camp, Pusat Jagaan Kanak-Kanak Sayang, Rumah Impian, Rumah Hope, Rumah Yayasan Nur Salam and Siddhartan Home.

The special guests were given cash coupons sponsored by generous donors to spend as they like.

Empowered by the coupons, the children happily took their turns at game stalls, purchased freshly grilled burgers, cotton candy and delectable cupcakes, went shopping for clothes and toys, and chased after the popular clown for his made-to-order balloon toy creations.

The most popular game station at the carnival was the dunking corner.

Visitors paid top dollar for attempts to send game TOC management staff, including training director Allan Cabiles and chief executive office Adelaine Foo, plunging into a tub of water.

Foo said the organising committee decided that it was more meaningful to celebrate 10 successful years of pioneering professional automotive education in Malaysia by giving something back to the community.

“I am glad to see that it was truly a collaborative effort from everyone that made the event a success. Our students demonstrated their creativity and industry by building many of the games from scratch and also their maturity by playing with the children. Our staff contributed home-cooked food and other goodies for sale while our industry and corporate partners and even individuals who believe in our vision donated so generously,” she said.

The TOC Scholarship Foundation was established to provide Form Five school leavers from underprivileged families with professional automotive education and the opportunity to pursue a career in the vibrant local automotive industry.

For the 2014 academic year, TOC will be giving out scholarships and awards worth more than RM140,000.
