Wiesmann Spyder Concept Looks Production-Ready

DUELMEN, Germany – The Wiesmann brothers continue to flash their iconoclasm, displaying an ultralight purist two-seater concept at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show called simply the Spyder.

With a curb weight of less than 2,200 pounds, the Spyder draws 420 horses from a BMW-sourced 4.0-liter V8, and is said to romp from rest to 60 in less than 4.0 seconds, galloping to a top speed of around 180 mph.

Lacking doors and a windshield, the Spyder is described by the German specialty carmaker as “the most extreme Wiesmann ever built.”

While it looks remarkably production-ready, Wiesmann says it “has not yet decided whether to put the Spyder into production” and that the concept “needs to undergo the judgment of the experts” before it decides to go ahead and build the car in 2012.
