Bosch Announce More Malaysian Representatives at the Bosch Power Tools Asia Cordless Race
Bosch will be sending an additional team to represent Malaysia at the Bosch Power Tools Asia Cordless Race 2011 Grand Finals in Beijing, China. The decision was made due to the overwhelming response received since the competition launched on the 1st of April 2011. A total of 53 blueprints from 21 private and public universities from across the country were received.
“The response to the inaugural Malaysian leg of the Bosch Power Tools Asia Cordless Race 2011 has exceeded our expectations,” said Mr. Chu Chee Bee, Regional Sales Director for ASEAN South, Robert Bosch Sdn. Bhd.
The latest development means that both the champion and runners-up from the qualifying race will represent Malaysia in Beijing, competing against finalists from Thailand, China, South Korea, and the Philippines. The company also increased the number of finalists to 12 teams from the initial eight.
Bosch made the announcement during a Racers Briefing for the students at its Regional Training Facility in Petaling Jaya, where the company unveiled the finalists after a shortlisting period. Each team was also presented with a grant worth RM12,000 and six Bosch GSB 18V-Li cordless impact drill / driver units to subsidize the building of their race karts.
The interactive session saw Bosch Power Tools experts providing the finalists with the full specifications for the kart which they are to build. The finalists were also given the opportunity to consult on the technicalities of building a race kart powered entirely by Bosch Li-ion technology.
Mr. Chu added that the entries to the Bosch Power Tools Asia Cordless Race 2011 showed an incredible amount of ingenuity from participants, which made the selection of the 12 finalists a daunting task.
“Deciding on the finalist teams was a truly difficult decision, as the panel of judges had to choose from a very diverse range of entries, which explored multiple principles in kart-racing. We are confident that the 12 finalist teams will build some truly competitive designs. The stage is set for an incredibly exciting race day,” added Mr. Chu.
