5 Types of Auto Racing
Drag Race
The name says it all; Drag. This involves usually two cars at a time, competing to cross the set finish line. The competition determines which vehicle has greater acceleration. According to the site: www.britannica.com , “For driver safety and improved traction, most such vehicles use rear-engine designs, and their front wheels usually float a few inches above the ground for about the first 200 feet of the race.”
Rallying
Rallying is conducted on closed public roads or off-road areas with varying road widths and terrain. You can either race up the mountains or even through the woods. Racers normally race in all sorts of environment and weather. Those who seek exhilaration and adventure will surely love to take part in a rally race. The road is different at every corner so the driver’s car control skills are vital.
Drift racing
Until today, drift racing is considered “Obscure”. Try googling types of races, drifting will probably be somewhere far off. However, drifting is a very popular sport in Japan. The name Keiichi Tsuchiya rings a bell, yes? Because he is known as the “Drift King”. Drifting has evolved into a competitive sport and the runs are judged subjectively. The criteria includes driving line, speed, drift angle and performance. Showmanship is the key point in drifting because the judges will grant performance points based on driving style and skills.
Formula Racing
This is probably the most common type of race when “Motorsport racing” comes to mind. It’s a form of single-seater, open-wheel circuit racing. Who doesn’t know Formula One right? Formula One is the pinnacle of formula racing, featuring the best drivers, in the most powerful cars. These drivers compete for many years and across thousands of miles before they’re ready for the competition.
Time Attack Racing
This is the race where drivers compete for the best lap time. Unlike other timed motorsport disciplines, the car is required to start off under full rolling start conditions following a warm up lap; which they will have to accelerate out as fast as possible to determine how fast they enter their timed lap. The sport of time attack was born in Japan as a platform for local tuning houses to showcase their wares. The fundamentals however, remain the same. Go around the track in the shortest amount of time from a flying start to a flying finish and the fastest lap wins.
