For all your pre-departure information, follow our quick steps below:

Immigration

  • Applying for a student visa takes 6-8 weeks.
  • The college will apply for you after receiving:
    • Your applications and application fees
    • Your acceptance of TOC conditional letter of offer
    • Proof of your ability to pay for the course

Money Matters

  • Check the current exchange rate between Ringgit and your currency.
  • Don't carry large sums of cash - travellers cheques are safer.
  • Try to budget for your year ahead:
    • airfares
    • tuition fees
    • living and other expenses

Medical

  • Have routine treatments before you leave, eg dentist.
  • Obtain vaccinations for Meningitis and Mumps.
  • There are many pharmacies and clinics close by in Malaysia.

Luggage

  • Check your airline luggage allowance - excess baggage costs can be very high!
  • Don't bring any bedding with you - it is provided in College's accommodation.
  • Don't bring kitchen items as they can be bought very cheaply in Malaysia.
  • Check if you need to bring an adapter and/or voltage converter for electrical equipment.
  • It is NOT advisable to bring in any food items (especially meat or dairy product) and plants.

Travel

  • Carry in your hand luggage: your acceptance letter, financial evidence, originals or certified copy of your degree/exam certificates, your International Student handbook.
  • Be patient and polite with the Immigration Officer - they may ask you a few questions.
  • If you have problems entering - call the TOC International Office.
  • TOC offers a Meet and Greet airport collection service from KLIA ( Kuala Lumpur International Airport ), ask for it before you depart.
  • If you are not able to use the airport Meet and Greet service there are good public transport services available.
  • When you arrive, collect your room key from the relevant Accommodation Service person who will be meeting you at the airport.

TOC Culture

  • There are many opportunities to help you adapt.
  • Go along to the International Office and speak to one of the International Student Advisers.
