Importance of English
English is the most widely-used language worldwide. It is used in all spheres of life and a good command of the language is essential. TOC offers English courses to prepare students for the demands of its diploma courses and possible further studies overseas. The courses are designed to help students develop a reasonable level of English proficiency and effective communication, involve the 4 skills of  listening, speaking, writing and reading.

Placement Test
The English Language Placement Test is an in-house assessment used by TOC to determine a student’s English Language proficiency. Depending on the score achieved, the affected students will be recommended the appropriate English course/level.
 
Intensive English Programme

All students are required to attend a 40-hour (7 weeks) English Course during Term 1 of their respective Diploma Programme. The following students will be exempted from this requirement:

  1. Malaysian students who have scored at least grade 4B or better in their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.
  2. International students with minimum IELTS 4.5 or TOEFL 480 in English language proficiency.
 
Certificate in English Proficiency (CEP)

International students who do not have IELTS 4.5 or TOEFL 480 in English language proficiency are required to attend the Certificate in English Proficiency Programme.

This programme is designed to enhance and improve student’s proficiency level focusing on writing, speaking and listening skills. The programme will also prepare students for further studies in English speaking countries. Each level is approximately 4 to 6 months and students will join the appropriate level depending on their current proficiency (based on their English Language Placement Test results).
